The Alextrix | follow @TheAlectrix

Tonight is the Season Premiere of MTV's The Alectrix. We sat down with Heather Naylor – the leader of the pop-group “The Alectrix”. The show airs tonight on MTV at 11pm/10c

The group will be taking over the @MTVSoundtrack twitter account at 11pm sharp. Be sure to follow all the action!

Interview:

ST:  Explain what Alectrix embodies?

Heather: 5 incredible singers that are all very different vocally and personality wise.

ST:  Who were your biggest music influences growing up? How do those influences bleed through with the music you write today?

Heather:  I loved Blondie, No Doubt & Garbage. Pretty much all female fronted groups because I think girls are so rad and fun to watch. I also loved the spice girls, the Alectrix would never have come to be a group if It weren't for the spice girls. That's the group I looked to the most when creating the Alectrix

ST: You're obviously the brains behind Alectrix. Were there specific expectations you looked for when you assembled the group? What were those expectations?

Heather: I looked for very strong voices coupled with Dancing ability and girls that really had strong identities and huge personalities. I wanted to create a super group of 5 insanely talented girls that I would wanna work an hang out with!

ST:  How have Alectrix embraced Social Media? How important is it to the group and why?

Heather: Social media is everything ....we need to work on it wayyyy more... but we are getting there!

ST:  Name one current Guilty Pleasure (could be music, food, fashion etc)

Heather: Vanilla ice blended coffee drinks from coffee bean

ST:  If you told you'd be stranded on a deserted island, what single album would you take with you and why?

Heather: Depeche Mode 'Violator'. I love them & Dave Gahan's voice always makes me happy

ST: What can we expect from Season 2 that we didn’t see in Season 1 ?

Heather: A lot of crying and me no longer able to work with some of my best friends. Very real conversations between me and Joe, this could be the most realistic look at what it's really like to work in the music biz...most of the time while we were shooting i was either crying, laughing or biting my nails off because this whole thing was so real it stressed me out like crazy... after we finished shooting the show I slept for 37 hours straight!

ST: What kind of ‘look’ are you channeling for the Alectrix? Where does the inspiration come from?

Heather: I love using colors and pull a lot of inspiration from a cartoon called Jem and the Holograms that I remember watching as a kid

ST: So, we have to ask – was the pressure on having someone like Joe Simpson as a mentor and manager?

Heather: It's was a challenge because I self managed the group before and

Had a hard time dealing with losing control and someone taking over.  Joe and I are both very strong personalities and hard headed at times so it wasn't easy. We are an incredible team though because we challenge and respect one another a great deal.

Kady Z

Kady Z

Soundtrack caught up with L.A. pop artist Kady Z to talk about the meaning of the "Z" in her name and a few other burning questions

ST: What does the "Z" in your name stand for?  And what are 3 other "Z" things you think represent you?

KZ: It's short for Zadora or sometimes when life just gets too crazy, Zoo. I would say Zed, cuz my friends call me Zed, Zero cuz "Less than Zero" is one of my favorite books and Xylophone, because I am a classically trained Xylophone player.  :)

ST: Your debut album was called One Million Pieces, tell us what that title means to you.

KZ: Well the EP is about a breakup so it's literally about a heart breaking into a million pieces.

ST: Who was your favorite contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race when you were on the show?

KZ: Definitely Raven and Jujubee, even though they were on my team! I think they are perfect!!

ST: What is your favorite past/present MTV show?

KZ: Awkward because Ashley Rickards cracks me up and I think everyone can relate to feeling out of place at some point in their lives.

ST: If you can collaborate with anyone on your next album, who would it be?

KZ: Ed Sheeran because he's a genius.
