Soundtrack to joecu - A Male from Los Angeles
The very first album I ever bought was Journey ‘Escape.’ A week later I bought the ‘Escape’ album cover blown up on a strange silk banner that hung in my room in Garland, Texas for years. Not that cool in hindsight, but the album and swap-meet rock art both served as markers in my life. That was when PHASE 1 of my life as a music fan began in earnest. I went through every part of my life with a corresponding soundtrack, a mixtape for every girl I knew or I wished knew me, and a morbid fixation on depressing lyrics.
PHASE 2 of my life as a music fan came with the long negotiated agreement I made with my family to “please GET CABLE!” The Cuellos were late to the game but when I finally had MTV, it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Hours and hours were spent watching videos, recording “120 Minutes” every Sunday night to discover alternative bands that NEVER would get played on mainstream radio. I made a piñata for 7th grade Spanish class that was a 4 foot, 3 dimensional MTV logo. Again, not that cool, but I was and still am, in love with MTV.
Now it’s my job, and today I am blown away that SOUNDTRACK.MTV.COM is here. The years of wishing I could pick music for shows, introduce people to music I love, champion emerging bands that make me feel something: all of that is the heart of SOUNDTRACK. And I am happy that you are here at the start. Please build a profile (band or fan), check out the music from our shows, submit your music to our music department - discover what MTV has always offered and be a part of what we are becoming.
This is the beginning of a process, a dialogue - the start of PHASE 3 of my life as a music fan.

  Thanks for coming-
Joe Cuello

Midnight In The City. It's a feeling. It's a time and place. It's where souls collide. It's a song. It's an album by The Ruse. Let it swallow you.
